Grok Bot this week: a faster app, X Chat, a new plan and two outages
Oct 12 to 16 in one read: what shipped in Grok Bot, Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT and Hark, what broke, what to do now, and what to watch the week of Oct 19.
Update the Grok Bot app before the weekend, then check that your routines actually ran this week. Grok Bot got faster, learned to read X Chat and picked up its first money connectors, but routines were held back or dropped on two days and Bot computers went dark for most of Wednesday. Here is the week in one place, with what to do and, near the end, what to watch the week of Oct 19.
The short version#
- New in Grok Bot: a faster app with a new look and six named connectors (Oct 16), X Chat reading (Oct 16), plus aliases for Bot email (Oct 14), plugin submissions (Oct 14) and Grok Voice 3.0 in voice chat (Oct 14).
- New plan: new customers now get Grok Bot from the $30 Premium tier of The X Subscription (SpaceXSI). Existing Cursor and SuperGrok plans keep working.
- Broke, then recovered: routines were held back Tuesday morning and event triggers failed Tuesday afternoon (status); Bot computers were unreachable from about 9 AM to 5 PM ET Wednesday (status).
- Still open: the shared routine webhook limit filled again Friday, Gmail connector links still turn into Google redirects, and old Grok app messages can replay into your Bots.
What shipped in Grok Bot#
A faster app with a new look. At 3:55 PM ET Friday, the official @bot account posted: "Computer tasks finish 3x sooner on average, and replies to everything else arrive in less than half the time." The same thread lists a new typeface and themes, redesigned chat cards, voice calls that remember more, notifications that go only to the device you're using, and connectors for Robinhood, Coinbase, eToro, Trello, PostHog and beehiiv (connectors post). The 3x figure is from the @bot account; the thread doesn't say how it was measured or which build carries the changes, and we haven't timed it (story).
Money apps, carefully. Cursor's marketplace listings say the Robinhood, Coinbase and eToro connectors can place trades, and the docs say installed connectors are available to every Bot on your account. Our suggestion: set an Auto Review rule that asks first before you add one.
X Chat. Paul Vann, a SpaceXSI staff member whose X bio reads "@spacexsi & @x api," posted at 10:39 AM ET Friday that Bot access to your X Chat messages and message requests is "now live." Our story covers setup through the X plugin and rules to give your Bot first.
Email aliases, plugins and voice. Your one mail.grokbot.com address now splits into plus aliases, and a routine can fire only for mail sent to one of them (story). Developers can submit MCP servers and plugins for review (story). SpaceXAI says Grok Voice 3.0 now runs Grok Bot's voice chat (story).
The X Subscription. On Monday evening SpaceXSI launched one plan family for Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor and X Premium. Premium ($30), Super ($100) and Ultra ($200) include Grok Bot; Free and Plus don't. If you already pay for Cursor or SuperGrok, you can stay put, but switching can't be undone (story). Staff also confirmed that routine saves check your Cursor plan, so a SuperGrok link alone isn't enough (story).
What broke, and what got fixed#
- Tuesday. Bots made before an account merge into The X Subscription went silent; staff shipped a fix Wednesday, and messages sent while they were stuck won't run, so send a new one (story). Scheduled routines were held back in the morning and flowed again from about noon ET, with missed runs not replayed (story). Event triggers then failed from 1:52 to 4:29 PM ET (status). Around 4:30 PM ET a planned server move rebuilt Bot computers: home folders and saved logins survived, but system wide apps and the browser profile did not (story).
- Wednesday. Staff say many Bot computers stopped responding from about 9 AM to 5 PM ET; the incident was marked Resolved at 5:04 PM ET (story). Staff also confirmed Bots can drop "I'll do it later" promises; a one time routine is the fix (story). 1Password fills fail on some sign in pages (story).
- Thursday. Amazon started showing some Bots an "unauthorized AI agent" page. Elon Musk said "SpaceX will make you whole" for Bot purchase mistakes; that pledge isn't on Cursor's help pages (story). Some computers can't save their backup, which blocks Update; staff say don't Reset (story). Some @bot tags in X replies never arrive (story).
- Friday. Staff say the shared webhook limit for all Grok Bot routines filled again; retry with backoff (story). The Gmail connector still rewrites links into Google redirects, with a fix in progress (story). An old Grok scheduled task can keep sending messages to your Bots; delete it in grok.com Tasks, don't archive it (story).
Cursor#
Cursor added two models: Gemini 4 Argon at $2 in and $10 out per million tokens (story) and Meta's Muse Wonder at $4 in and $20 out, which Cursor says scores 46.1% on CursorBench (story). The Origin App Marketplace passed 20 integrations and opened submissions (story). On the problem side: a platform wide automation start limit dropped runs on Tuesday (story), Grok models hit capacity errors Thursday night until 1:20 AM ET Friday (story), turning off Sync Skills for Cloud Agents can copy an old snapshot over your local skills (story), and the Bugbot review subagent always bills as Composer 2.5 Fast (story).
Beyond Grok Bot#
Anthropic. Claude Code Review left preview for Team and Enterprise (story). Haiku 5.5 shipped with breaking parameter changes (story), Managed Agents can now fan out up to 1,000 agents in phases (story), the Claude Platform sends OpenTelemetry traces in beta (story), and the Claude Code desktop app was rebuilt for parallel sessions (story). Research posts covered distillation defenses, self replication on cheap devices, and NIST curve seeds (story).
OpenAI. GPT-6 brought Intelligent UI to every ChatGPT plan (story). GPT-6.1 Sol's default context in Codex and Work rose to 500k (story). ChatGPT can now read Chrome tabs, and Work can act in them (story); Sites dropped its fixed creation cap for Plus and Pro (story). GPT-5.5 left ChatGPT on Oct 14 (story), and eight states sued OpenAI over ChatGPT safety for kids (story).
Hark. Hark Pro launched free on web, iOS and Android (story), version 2.3.0 added a Lock Screen widget (story), and users report it still completes Amazon orders after the agent block hit Grok Bots (story).
What to do now#
- Update the app. Open Settings, go to Updates, choose Check for Updates, then Restart to Update (Cursor Help).
- Audit the week's routines. Tuesday's held runs weren't replayed, and webhook calls rejected by the shared limit aren't queued. Find the gaps before you rerun anything.
- Delete stale Grok tasks. If an old message keeps landing in a Bot, remove the scheduled task in grok.com Tasks.
- Fix links by hand in Gmail drafts until the connector fix ships.
Prompt (ours):
Look at every routine you ran between Monday Oct 12 and now. List any run that was skipped, held back or rejected, with the day and time, and say whether it was ever rerun. Don't rerun anything yet. Put the misses at the top.
Why it matters at work#
Our read: if your team runs reports, intake or follow ups on routines, this was a week where silence didn't mean success. Two days of held or dropped runs, with no automatic replay, is the strongest case yet for a weekly check of what actually ran. The new trading connectors are the other work item: they are account wide, so set an ask first rule before anyone installs one.
Coming next week#
Everything here is announced, hinted or scheduled, not shipped. Labels show how firm each item is.
- A prompt link (staff confirmed, no date). Colin said a new link that opens a Bot with your text typed in is coming in an upcoming update, and "The message is filled in but never sent automatically" (story).
- More after Friday's update (staff hint, no date). Parker Conrad, a SpaceXSI staff member whose bio reads "voice @spacexsi," wrote "More soon."
- Saved web passwords for Bots (hint, unverified timing). Asked about it, Musk replied "Coming very soon." That's a hint, not a date.
- @bot tagging outside the US (staff hint). Lauren Tan, whose bio reads "Grok @Bot at @SpaceXSI," wrote "we're not in EU/UK/Australia yet, coming soon."
- Fixes in flight (staff said, no dates). The Gmail link rewrite fix is being built but isn't live (story); the skill sync overwrite was flagged to the team (story); the Grok app replay, the skipped X reply tags and the shared webhook limit are tracked issues.
- Written terms for the purchase pledge (open question). Watch for a claim form or help page behind Musk's pledge; our opinion column argues for a purchase ledger.
- Oct 23: OpenAI API shutdowns (scheduled).
gpt-3.5-turbo,gpt-4,gpt-4-turbo,gpt-4.1-nano,gpt-4o-2024-05-13,gpt-image-1,o1,o1-pro,o3-mini,o4-miniand several fine tunes shut down that day (deprecations). If a Bot or script calls one, switch it this week. - Oct 20 and 22: OpenAI DevDay Exchange (scheduled). OpenAI lists events in Tokyo on Oct 20 and Seoul on Oct 22, by application (event page).
