Grok Bot's X connector no longer needs a developer account or credits

An X API engineer says your Bot can now sort bookmarks, go through DMs and draft articles through the X connector at no extra charge.

Your Bot can now work through your X bookmarks and DMs without an X developer account or API credits. Santiago, whose X bio reads "building the everything api @X," posted at 7:55 PM ET Monday: "Last week, we removed the need for a developer account and X API credits to use the X connector in Grok Bot." He added: "Ask @bot to manage your bookmarks, go over your DMs, or draft an article for you free of additional charge." The official @XDevelopers account quoted it about 40 minutes later.

What changed#

When X support launched on Aug 29, SpaceXSI wrote that connecting X would "create a developer account for you" and that "Paid Grok Bot users get free X API credits to start." That page still says so. The docs already split the two paths: public search and reading need no sign-in, while "For your DMs, bookmarks, home timeline, or who liked your posts, add the X plugin from Connect apps and sign in with X."

How to use it#

Open Connect apps, add the X plugin and sign in with X. Then start with a read-only job.

Good to know#

Not in the changelog or docs yet.
Limits are unclear. One user wrote their Bot "couldn’t process all bookmarks stating there is a limit". No staff answer yet.
Leftover credits. Nobody has said what happens to money already in a developer account, as one user asked.
DMs still need your Chat PIN in a secure form (our Oct 16 story).
Your plan usage may still apply. One user said X reads failed after they hit their usage limit.
