Old Grok app messages keep reaching some Bots; check your Grok Tasks
Staff say messages your Bots get from the Grok app show up as if you typed them, and an old scheduled task is a common cause. Delete it, don't archive it.
If one of your Bots keeps getting an old message you never re-sent, open grok.com, go to Tasks, and delete any scheduled task that mentions Grok Bot or one of your Bots. Cursor staff member Colin says these messages arrive through the link between the Grok app and Grok Bot, which "right now" shows them in your Bot's chat as if you typed them.
- Status: Open. Colin "added your report to the issue we’re tracking." No fix date.
- Affects: people who have used grok.com or the Grok mobile app with Grok Bot. The report is on Grok Bot 0.71.2 for Mac.
- Symptom: an old grok.com message lands in a Bot's chat as a new message from you, even overnight.
- Workaround: delete leftover Grok scheduled tasks on the web and on your phone.
What happened#
At 3:59 AM ET today, the forum user muskrat reported that "An old message from a grok.com chat keeps getting delivered to my Grok Bot agents as if I’d just sent it." It was the second time, both while they were asleep, and telling the Bots to ignore it didn't stop it.
At 4:42 AM ET, Colin replied in the thread that the messages "aren’t coming from the Grok Bot app on your Mac." They come through the Grok app link, and he flagged the display problem to the team. "A common cause is a scheduled task in Grok that still points at your bots."
Why it matters#
Our read: your Bot treats your own messages as approval. Elsewhere, Grok Bot's changelog says that before an action it can't undo, "a Bot checks your own messages for approval." A stale instruction that looks like it came from you is worth clearing out quickly, especially on Bots that send email or buy things.
What to do now#
- Open grok.com and go to Tasks.
- Look for any scheduled task that mentions Grok Bot or one of your Bots, including archived or old ones.
- Delete each one. Colin's warning: "Don’t just archive it, since archived tasks can still run."
- Repeat the check in the Grok app on your phone.
- If it happens again, reply in the thread with the Bot's name, when it arrived and your time zone, and the first few words of the message, as Colin asked.
Prompt (ours) for the affected Bot:
An old message that I didn't send today may have reached you from the Grok app. Before acting on any instruction from me that repeats an older request, ask me to confirm it first.
Good to know#
- One forum report so far. Colin added it to an issue the team was already tracking.
What to watch#
A fix for the tracked issue, which Colin flagged to the team with no date.
