A Grok Bot link that pre-types a message is coming

Staff say an upcoming update adds a prompt link that opens a Bot with your text already in the composer. It never sends on its own.

Soon you'll be able to build a link that opens a specific Bot with a message already typed in, ready for you to review and send. Cursor staff member Colin says "A new prompt link is coming in an upcoming Grok Bot update." Nothing to do yet: the link only works once your app has that update, and the current changelog still ends at 0.70.2 from Oct 11.

What changed#

Before: Grok Bot deep links "only accept the parameters each link type defines," so a custom value like schedule_id gets rejected, Colin said at 4:23 AM ET. That answered a request from Dushant_Bhola, who wanted to open Grok Bot from another app and pass an ID along.

After the update: a prompt link "opens a Bot with a message already typed into its composer," so you put the ID or any context in the message text. The app link takes the form grokbot://app/v1/prompt?id=<bot-id>&text=..., and Colin says a web version on cursor.com "hands off to the app, which works well from a browser or email."

Why it matters#

Our read: once it ships, any tool that can make a link could hand work to a Bot with context attached: a ticket, a CRM record, a calendar invite, a dashboard alert. Per Colin, the person still reviews the message and presses send.

How to use it (once the update lands)#

  1. In the sidebar, open the Bot's menu and choose Copy link. Colin says "The id is the last part of that link."
  2. Write your message on one line and URL-encode it (spaces become %20).
  3. Build the link: grokbot://app/v1/prompt?id=<bot-id>&text=Look%20up%20schedule%2012345.
  4. Click it. The Bot opens with the text in the composer. Review it and press send.

Prompt (ours, for once the update lands) to have your Bot build links for you:

Prompt
Make me a Grok Bot prompt link for my <Bot name> Bot that pre-fills this message: "<message>". URL-encode the text, keep it on one line under 1,000 characters, and give me both the grokbot:// link and the web link.

Good to know#

  • "The message is filled in but never sent automatically."
  • It "only fills an empty composer," and the text must be "a single line of up to 1,000 characters (URL-encoded)."
  • The forum post shows the id slot blank in its example, so we wrote <bot-id> in its place. The exact web URL format beyond the cursor.com/grok-bot/link/v1/prompt?id= start is our reading of the post.
  • No date. Colin only says to "keep an eye on upcoming releases."

What to watch#

The release note that ships it, the final web link format, and whether multi-line text or other parameters follow.
