0.70.2 was said to keep your computer connected when you step away

Staff say the local helper stays up after the window sits in the background. Also: Linux local exec breaks on Ubuntu 22.04, and routines still can't send from mail.grokbot.com.

Grok BotWhat's new#

Update, Oct 13: The changelog now lists 0.70.2 (dated Oct 11). Its notes don't mention the unfocused-window behavior, so that claim still comes only from staff on the forum.

Update, Oct 13: We softened this issue's headline. 0.70.2 is a build staff named on the forum, and whether it fixes the Mac idle drop is now disputed: staff later said the Mac can still drop after about 10 minutes. Details are in the corrected story.

Update, Oct 12, 8:55 PM ET: Grok Bot now starts at $30 for new customers. SpaceXSI launched The X Subscription at 7:08 PM ET, and Grok Bot comes with its Premium ($30), Super ($100) and Ultra ($200) plans, not Free or Plus. Current Cursor and SuperGrok plans keep working, and switching is optional but permanent. (confirmed) Steps and gotchas are in our story.

Update, Oct 12: We now cover Anthropic, OpenAI and Hark alongside Grok Bot. This update adds 12 posts: five from Anthropic, including Claude Code 2.1.296 and the Haiku 5.5 migration, five from OpenAI, led by GPT-5.5 retiring on Oct 14, and two on the Hark Pro launch and its known issues. Three smaller OpenAI items are in the digest below.

No new version is on the changelog. It still ends at 0.68.1 from Oct 7, and Cursor's status page shows no incidents since Friday evening. (confirmed) Staff named Grok Bot 0.70.2 overnight and said it keeps your local computer connected when the app window sits in the background. (confirmed)

0.70.2 keeps the local helper running in the background (confirmed)#

What happened: On Monday at 2:46 AM ET, staff member mohitjain told a Linux user that "Grok Bot treats the computer as away once its window has been unfocused for about 10 minutes, even with no sleep or lock," and that "Grok Bot 0.70.2 keeps the local helper running in this case." At 2:49 AM ET he told a Mac user whose Bot had clicked into Godot that "Version 0.70.2 changes this so your Mac stays connected while you're away."

Who is affected: Mac and Linux users who let a Bot run commands on the local computer, especially always-on machines and Bots that click into other apps. Staff have not said whether Windows gets the same unfocused-window fix in 0.70.2.

What to do now:

  1. On Mac: open Settings, Updates, Check for Updates, then Restart to Update. If it does not relaunch, fully quit with Cmd+Q and open it again.
  2. On Linux, the apt repo "doesn't have it yet," mohitjain said. Install the .deb from his post, then fully quit and reopen:
wget -O grok-bot_0.70.2_amd64.deb https://api2.cursor.sh/updates/download/stable/linux-x64/grok-bot-fb0a830618be0c54
sudo apt install ./grok-bot_0.70.2_amd64.deb
  1. On Windows, keep the Grok Bot window focused until staff say whether 0.70.2 changes the unfocused pause there.
  2. On Mac or Linux, leave the Grok Bot window in the background for more than 10 minutes, then ask a Bot to run a short command on that computer.

We checked the Linux 0.70.2 .deb on Cursor's download server at 8:36 AM ET (HTTP 200, file date Oct 11 1:32 AM ET, about 105 MB). A forum report from Chris_Doyle shows a version field of 0.70.2 on macOS stable, built Oct 11, while the same post's description still says App Version 0.68.1. No staff reply yet. We did not install the desktop app here, so we couldn't watch the helper ourselves.

What to watch: a 0.70.2 section on the changelog, the apt package catching up, and replies from people who still drop on 0.70.2. Screen lock and the Bot's own computer sleep are separate from this unfocused-window fix. See the fix entry and the updated idle disconnect known issue.

Local execution fails on Ubuntu 22.04 and Pop!_OS 22.04 (confirmed)#

What happened: Local commands never start on Ubuntu 22.04-based systems. deanrie said at 3:29 AM ET that the Linux build "pulls in a native module built against a newer C++ runtime," so it fails with ERR_DLOPEN_FAILED. "Chat and cloud computer aren't affected, and updating to a newer version of Grok Bot doesn't help for now."

Who is affected: Linux users on Ubuntu 22.04 or Pop!_OS 22.04 who need Execution on this computer.

What to do now:

  1. Use the Bot's cloud computer for work that does not need that box.
  2. Or run Grok Bot on Ubuntu 24.04 or newer, or on another OS, on the same account.
  3. Do not replace system libstdc++. Staff said that can break other software.

What to watch: a reply in that thread when a build targets the older runtime. Details: known issue.

Scheduled routines don't get Bot inbox email tools (confirmed)#

What happened: SendEmail from a claimed mail.grokbot.com inbox works in the main chat and fails in a scheduled routine with SendEmail not found. mohitjain said at 3:37 AM ET: "routine runs don't currently get your Bot's inbox tools, only its main chat does." "Nothing's wrong with your setup."

Who is affected: anyone sending briefings or digests from the Bot's own address on a schedule.

What to do now:

  1. For unattended mail, send through Gmail.
  2. If it must come from mail.grokbot.com, have the routine hand the draft to the main chat for an approval.
  3. Test with a one-time routine first.

What to watch: a staff update in that thread. Details: known issue.

Grok BotHow people are using it#

Grok BotThe digest#

0.70.2 is the first staff-named build after the weekend's 0.69 and 0.70 sightings on the download server. The away fix is specific: the helper should keep running when the window is unfocused. The changelog still stops at 0.68.1, so everything else in 0.69 and 0.70 is still unlisted. Our rumor entry tracks that gap. If you update and still drop, staff asked for times and your timezone in the Mac and Linux threads.

Open bugs that did not move overnight: Copy on iOS still has a fix "ready" for a coming App Store update. The Bot computer pause for background scripts is still open. Mariano posted at 7:35 AM ET that he still can't use his Bot for that bug, with no new staff reply. Email-triggered routines can still fail to save. The biology safety filter entry is unchanged.

Template skills imports remain broken. mohitjain confirmed at 6:12 AM ET that the team has the asks for a regression check, an import note, and a copy button, with "No timeline yet." See the known issue. Separately, deanrie said at 7:43 AM ET there is "currently no official public API or SDK for Grok Bot" for listing or creating bots, sending messages, or reading transcripts, so companion UIs still lean on UI automation.

One Mac forum report shows a version field of 0.70.2 while the description still says 0.68.1, and a persistent Bot failed to respond loop across new bots after a computer reset. No staff reply yet. (reported)

OpenAI admins: Costs data from the Compliance API may still have gaps. OpenAI's status page says a mitigation is in place but "Some customers may continue to see incomplete Costs data while the backlog catches up," and the incident was still marked Monitoring when we checked at 10:43 AM ET. "ChatGPT usage and API Platform requests remain unaffected." Hold cost reports that depend on this feed until it resolves. (confirmed)

ChatGPT has a new $500 a month Pro 500 plan with "the highest included usage of the Pro plans and access to Astra Ultrafast in ChatGPT Work and Codex," per the release notes. Among Pro plans, Ultrafast is only on Pro 500, and buying credits on Pro 100 or Pro 200 does not unlock it. Pro 200 is open to new subscribers again at $200 a month, but OpenAI says "Included usage allowances are changing" and is emailing affected users. (confirmed)

Tip for ChatGPT: paid users can now attach an audio file and ask for a transcript, summary or follow-up email, per the release notes. Availability varies by workspace settings, region, client version and model, and OpenAI warns "Transcripts may contain errors, and performance may vary across languages," so check names and numbers. Try: "Transcribe this recording, then list decisions, open questions and action items with owners." (confirmed)

What to watch: a changelog entry for 0.70.2, apt catching up on Linux, staff word on the inbox-tools gap, and whether screen lock still pauses the local helper after this update.
