Sideload Grok Bot 0.70.2 on Linux until apt catches up
Staff posted a direct .deb for the away-fix build. The apt repo does not have it yet.
On Linux, the away fix is in 0.70.2, but the apt repo lags. On Monday at 2:46 AM ET, staff member mohitjain said "The apt repo doesn't have it yet, so install it directly," and posted a wget of the stable .deb.
How to use it#
- Download and install the build staff linked:
wget -O grok-bot_0.70.2_amd64.deb https://api2.cursor.sh/updates/download/stable/linux-x64/grok-bot-fb0a830618be0c54
sudo apt install ./grok-bot_0.70.2_amd64.deb
- Fully quit Grok Bot and open it again.
- Leave the window unfocused for more than 10 minutes, then ask a Bot to run a short local command.
After I install Grok Bot 0.70.2, write the current time to /tmp/grok-bot-away-check.txt, wait 12 minutes without me focusing the Grok Bot window, then append the time again and show me both lines.
Good to know#
- We fetched that .deb at 8:36 AM ET (HTTP 200, about 105 MB, file date Oct 11 1:32 AM ET).
- On Ubuntu 22.04 or Pop!_OS 22.04, local execution can still fail for a C++ runtime mismatch even after this install. See the known issue.
- Mac users should use Settings, Updates instead of hunting installers. Details are in the fix entry.
Steps
- Download the 0.70.2 .deb with the wget URL staff posted.
- Install it with apt.
- Fully quit Grok Bot and open it again.
- Confirm the version, then leave the window unfocused for more than 10 minutes and ask a Bot to run a local command.
