Grok Bot adds a Shopify connector and built-in X search

Elon Musk also says Bots will now use outside models such as Claude Opus 5.5.

Update, Oct 8: A second Opus 5.5 incident listed Grok Bot from 3:52 PM to 4:51 PM ET. We've added it below, along with deeper how-to steps for each item.

Grok Bot can now help run a Shopify store. Connect Shopify, and a Bot can "check orders, track inventory, and keep product listings up to date," the @bot account said at 12:11 PM ET. Shopify announced the connector about 10 minutes earlier.

Until now, Shopify's "verify human" check blocked Bots that tried to sign in through the browser, and forum staff suggested an Admin API workaround. Now you can ask your Bot to add Shopify, or add it from Plugins on the sidebar and Authorize in your browser. Try a routine like "Every weekday at 9:00 AM, summarize new orders and low stock in this chat." SpaceXAI hasn't published which plans get it or which actions need approval.

X search no longer needs a connector#

Since 5:40 PM ET Wednesday, any Bot can search, read, and monitor X, with "no need to set up the X connector." Before, you had to connect X first. Ask in chat, or set up a routine to watch a topic. Lauren Tan, who works on Grok Bot, asked hers to "slack me a daily digest at 9am" of interesting Grok Bot uses on X. Each routine run spends usage, so pick a schedule you need.

You can also reportedly tag @bot in an X post or reply to hand your Bot a task, such as "@bot summarize this thread." The @bot account replies when it routes the request. It went live Tuesday evening per SpaceXAI staff, but there's no changelog line, and some users say it does nothing for them.

Bots now route work to outside models#

Elon Musk posted early Wednesday that Grok Bot will use "the best back end model for any given task, including Claude Opus 5.5, MidJourney, Suno and other leading APIs." Cursor's help center now says Grok Bot "is not tied to a single model," and that routing a task to Opus 5.5 "doesn't change what it costs you per token."

There's nothing to switch on and no model picker. You can't see or block the model behind a request, and a team's Cursor model allowlist doesn't apply. To check your spend, open Settings, then Usage & Billing.

Two Opus 5.5 incidents hit Grok Bot#

Cursor's status page listed Grok Bot in Opus 5.5 rate-limit errors from 9:54 to 11:31 AM ET, and in "intermittent errors or failed requests" from 3:52 to 4:51 PM ET. If a Bot fails, check the Grok Bot row on status.cursor.com, wait, and send again. Cursor's FAQ says a Reset or reinstall won't fix a service problem.

Version 0.68.1 builds slide decks#

Grok Bot 0.68.1, out Wednesday, lets Bots build slide decks with you. Ask for one, pick from sample slides, and get a PowerPoint file or Google Slides back. Bots can also send formatted emails from a draft card, and the Bot's computer moves to a 1920 by 1200 screen. To update, open Settings, then Updates, and choose Check for Updates.

Smaller changes#

  • Gmail: Added sending from a verified send-as address, with a From picker on the draft card (0.68.0)
  • Approvals: Changed approval cards to name the Bot and quote its instruction (0.68.0)
  • Languages: Added Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Swahili, and Hausa under Settings, General (0.68.0)
  • Composer: Removed the menu that opened when you typed / (0.68.1)

Known issues with workarounds#

Forum staff confirmed these. None has a fix date yet.

  • macOS: The local computer connection drops when the Mac is idle or locked. Keep the Grok Bot window in the foreground. Staff also suggest turning off the lock-screen password, only for a Mac in a secure place
  • Windows: The in-app updater rejects its own download. Install Setup.exe from cursor.com/download/bot instead
  • MCP: Reused remote MCP sessions leave out the MCP-Protocol-Version header, so strict servers return HTTP 400. Reconnecting doesn't help. Server owners can fall back to the version negotiated at initialization
  • Reset: "Bot failed to respond" errors are still being tracked. Stop retrying Reset, and quit and reopen the app instead
  • Network: Some Bot computers can only connect out over HTTPS on port 443 since Oct 1. Use HTTPS endpoints and clone git over HTTPS

Still unconfirmed#

  • Email: Users report Bots claiming their own addresses at mail.grokbot.com, often just by asking the Bot to send an email. Musk replied "Yes" when asked, and Lauren Tan asked @bot for one for her Bot. Claiming still fails for some accounts, and SpaceXAI hasn't documented it.
