Grok Bot routes work to outside models, including Opus 5.5

You don't need to change anything, and Cursor says Opus 5.5 work costs the same per token.

Grok Bot will use "the best back end model for any given task, including Claude Opus 5.5, MidJourney, Suno and other leading APIs," Elon Musk posted at 2:46 AM ET on Oct 7.

Cursor's help center now says Grok Bot "is not tied to a single model." For each task, it picks the backend most likely to do the job well. That can be an xAI model or one from a provider on Cursor's sub-processor list, and it can change from one request to the next. Lauren Tan, who works on Grok Bot, replied that morning that "bot itself will run on opus 5.5" and that it was "rolling out right now."

Why it matters#

You get whichever model fits the task without picking one. Until now, the only model SpaceXAI had tied to Grok Bot was Grok 4.7. The help center says routing a task to Opus 5.5 "doesn't change what it costs you per token."

How to use it#

There's nothing to turn on, and there's no model picker.

  1. Give the Bot the task as usual.
  2. To see where your usage went, open Settings, then Usage & Billing. Grok Bot records this as Grok Bot usage, not by model.
  3. Team admins should read the notice shown when enabling Grok Bot. The help center says a team's Cursor model allowlist doesn't apply to Grok Bot.

Good to know#

  • You can't see, choose, or block the model behind a request.
  • The sub-processor list is the official record of which providers may process your data.
  • Cursor's status page listed Grok Bot in two Opus 5.5 incidents on Oct 8, at 9:54 AM and 3:52 PM ET. Both were resolved the same day.
  • SpaceXAI hasn't said when, or whether, Midjourney and Suno will be used.
