Tagging @bot on X to send work to your Bot
Reply to any post with @bot and an instruction, and the request lands in your Grok Bot.
Update, Oct 9: We now label this confirmed. SpaceXAI's docs have an official Tag @bot on X page (last updated Oct 7), and the @bot account told users on Oct 9 to "tag @bot on X" to claim an email address. We added the docs' requirements and region limits under Good to know.
Update, Oct 15: Cursor staff say some @bot tags in replies are dropped before they reach your Bot, and they are tracking it. A tag is also skipped with no reply when @bot only appears in the reply names X adds automatically, not typed in your text. If @bot doesn't reply, paste the post link into your Bot's chat.
You can tag @bot on X with an instruction and have it land in your Grok Bot. Larsen Cundric (@larsencc), whose X bio places him on Grok Bot at SpaceXAI, posted at 7:38 PM ET on Oct 6 that tagging "just went live" and works in replies, posts, and quotes. Lauren Tan (@poteto), who works on Grok Bot, quoted him an hour later: "tag Grok @Bot on X!" Ben Lang listed it among recent shipments on Oct 8.
There's still no changelog line, but SpaceXAI's docs now describe it: @bot replies on X to confirm your Bot has the request, and "the work and its results stay in that Bot's conversation in the Grok Bot app." Your Bot gets your post, the post you replied to, and any post either of them quotes.
Why it matters#
You can hand a Bot a task from the post you're reading, without opening the app or copying a link.
How to use it#
- Reply to a post, or write your own, with @bot and an instruction.
- Watch for the @bot reply. It usually says something like "Sending that to your Grok Bot now."
- Open your Bot to see the request and the result.
Example instructions from the launch post: "@bot add this to my Notion reading list", "@bot remind me to read this tomorrow", "@bot summarize this thread", and "@bot draft a reply to this."
A real use: Lauren Tan tagged @bot to "look out for interesting things people are doing with Grok Bot on X and slack me a daily digest at 9am." Shopify also told people to ask @bot to add its new connector "right in the comments."
Good to know#
- If you don't have Grok Bot, @bot replies with a sign-up link and asks you to tag it again afterward.
- Your instruction is a public post. Don't put anything private in it.
- You need a Grok account with your X account connected (on grok.com, Settings, then Account, then Connect next to X Account), Grok Bot access on that same account, and at least one Bot of your own. Bots someone shared with you can't take tagged requests, the docs say.
- Tagging doesn't work yet for X accounts based in Australia, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway. It goes by the country X has on record for your account, so a VPN doesn't help, and @bot doesn't reply (docs).
- @bot also stays quiet if the post tags @grok too, if a post in the chain has a video or GIF, or if your weekly usage is used up, or if @bot is only in the automatic reply names rather than typed in your post (staff). Each tagged request uses your Grok Bot usage (docs).
- A request that needs a plugin, such as Notion, still needs that plugin connected in Grok Bot.
