ChatGPT and Codex will share one usage allowance from December
On Plus, Pro and Business, chats and Codex will draw from one token-based allowance. Plus ChatGPT's paid account limits per device and Claude's Rust port.
Key takeaways
- From December, ChatGPT Plus, Pro and Business chats and Codex will draw from one token-based allowance; Instant chat won't count.
- ChatGPT now limits how many paid accounts can be used on one device, and may block a purchase on a card with too many subscriptions.
- Anthropic says Claude wrote the Rust port that now runs its Messages API, checked against Python on shadow traffic.

ChatGPT and Codex will share one usage allowance from December (OpenAI; confirmed)#
If you pay for ChatGPT Plus, Pro or Business, starting in December your chats and Codex work will draw from one allowance "measured in tokens," per OpenAI's help article. More advanced models and complex tasks use more of it, and "Instant chat will not draw from your usage." Today, OpenAI's Codex help page puts Codex, ChatGPT Work, ChatGPT for Excel and Workspace Agents on a shared pool, and regular chat isn't on that list. Check your usage now in Settings > Usage, or with /status in Codex CLI. (confirmed)

Grok Bot weekly usage jumped overnight, then mostly came back (Grok Bot; reported)#
If your Grok Bot weekly meter jumped over the weekend, open Settings, Usage & Billing and compare it with your usage export. Users on a Cursor forum thread say their meter roughly doubled on Nov 1, and several say it dropped back early Monday; others say it still reads high. Asked about a reset, Elon Musk replied "The cost of serving Grok Bot was unsustainably high relative to revenue", without saying whether limits changed. No staff post or official note explains the jump yet. (reported)

Hark users say the Nov 1 reset moved their limit to Dec 1 (Hark; reported)#
If Hark says your monthly limit won't reset until Dec 1, screenshot your usage view and report it in Settings → Send Feedback or to support@hark.com. Several users say the Nov 1 reset didn't give them a new month, and Brett Adcock, Hark's founder, replied "Will take a look". Hark hasn't said whether it's a bug or a new limit. (reported)

OpenAIHow people are using it#
Setups people say they run. They are self-reported, and we have not run them.
- A nonprofit's weekday support inbox drafts. Vegan Hacktivists says "We set up a scheduled task that runs each weekday" that "Inserts draft replies for us to review and flags questions that need our input" for its Amplify course inbox. Steven Rouk, whose X bio reads "Director of AI @ veganhacktivists.org", wrote Oct 29 that "I personally have these running." The guide names Claude and ChatGPT but not which runs this task, and the nonprofit offers free AI help to animal groups (disclosed in the piece). Starter prompt is ours and untested.

- Two agents that pass notes through Gmail drafts. @Shicheng_lsc says Muse, Meta's AI agent, saves an AI news draft "every morning at 4:45am pacific," and at 5:30 "grok bot searches my drafts for that subject with today's date and writes my X post from it." They report "9 days, 9 daily drafts." Self-reported by a 4-follower account the author says their AI helps write. Starter prompt is ours and untested.

- Fewer, better Bots. In a guide on X posted Oct 31, Lauren (@poteto), whose X bio reads "grok @bot at @SpaceXSI", wrote: "you don’t need a lot of bots. a few good bots can be more useful and easier to manage than a large team." Her favorite tip is to brain dump by voice, "then, at the end, tell your bot to “restate this in your own words” so you can confirm it understood you." (staff member's own setup)
OpenAIThe digest#
Grok Bot and Cursor#
- When your weekly usage actually resets. "The weekly window is a fixed 7-day period that resets at the same clock time each week," Cursor's mohitjain said at 4:20 AM ET. "The app shows only the date, and the countdown rounds up, so anything under 24 hours reads “resets in 1 day.”" Separately, he said a meter that stays Free-sized after you leave a team is "an issue we’re tracking" that needs support@x.ai. (confirmed, staff)
- Legacy Cursor plans work the same as before, staff say. Before you switch, note that "The switch is irreversible," staff member deanrie wrote at 2:35 AM ET. Later he said at 4:42 AM ET that on legacy plans "limits still reset once a month," and "Right now, Pro, Pro+, and Ultra work the same as before, and switching to The X Subscription isn’t required." He added: "I can’t promise anything about the future." (confirmed, staff)
- Source control integrations hiccup, resolved. The status page listed "Issues with source control integrations" in Cursor and Grok Bot from 4:09 to 5:24 AM ET today. "The issue is resolved." (confirmed)
- Saturday's short outage. A "Multiple services degraded" incident hit Automations, Cloud Agents, cursor.com and Grok Bot from 2:04 to 2:47 AM ET on Oct 31, and is resolved. (confirmed)
OpenAI#
- ChatGPT caps paid accounts per device and per payment card. OpenAI's Help Center now says "ChatGPT also limits how many paid accounts you can use on one device," and "If too many subscriptions are associated with the same payment card or device, ChatGPT may block a new subscription purchase." The limits cover "ChatGPT Go, ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Pro 100, ChatGPT Pro 200, and ChatGPT Pro 500 plans"; Free and Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces "do not count toward the limit." OpenAI gives no number. The warning reads "Device limit reached," and "Buying credits or resetting usage won’t clear a card or device restriction." The fix OpenAI lists is to sign in to "another permitted account you own" or cancel and request a refund. Shared households can hit it: "A shared household or public device can also reach a limit when people use their own accounts." OpenAI says device limits are separate from the two-account switcher in Saturday's story. (confirmed)
- Daybreak Blue sessions on personal accounts may be used for training, even with training off. OpenAI's data controls page now says: "During Daybreak sessions on your personal account, we may use content from your interactions to improve our models even when “Improve the model for everyone” is off." Your setting "still applies to your other activity when not in a Trusted Access session," and business workspaces are not used for training by default, per the same page. Per RuntimeWire, OpenAI's notice set the change for November 29 and ends Daybreak Blue API access for individuals on November 20, and a later notice promised "a separate way to opt out of model improvement for Daybreak sessions." The help page doesn't describe that opt-out yet. Our read: until that control shows up on OpenAI's page, the training rule above is the one in writing. (OpenAI page confirmed; dates and opt-out reported)
- Tibo: two banked resets this weekend. Tibo Sottiaux, whose X bio reads "Codex & ChatGPT @OpenAI," followed up his Saturday tease with "Banked 1/2" at 8:43 PM ET Saturday and "Day 28/ Banked 2/2" at 6:27 PM ET Sunday. He named no plans. Per OpenAI's resets article, a banked reset is "saved to your account for later use," and to use one from Usage settings, "at least one allowance it covers must have less than 80% remaining." On desktop, check Settings > Usage & billing for Available resets and their expiration. (staff claim)
- No new OpenAI incidents. status.openai.com shows nothing since Friday's two resolved incidents, covered in Saturday's digest. (confirmed)
Anthropic#
- Claude Code's Opus 5.5 prompt now steers away from recreating specific games. Anthropic's Addy Osmani confirmed the change on Oct 30: "We added two sentences to Claude Code's prompt on Opus 5.5 to steer it away from recreating someone else's specific game because using Claude to infringe IP is against our usage policy." He said original games, genre games and games built from your own designs and assets are meant to keep working, and asked people whose own work gets turned down to send it to him. XDA found the rule's text in the Claude Code 2.1.314 binary. A developer's GitHub issue, reported by TNW, says refusals continued in new sessions on the same code. (confirmed; the TNW detail is reported)
- Type ultrathink mid-turn to raise Claude Code's effort, now in VS Code too. Since Claude Code 2.1.311 (Oct 26), typing
ultrathinkin the terminal runs that turn atxhigheffort on Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5, Haiku 5.5 and Fable 5.1 through Anthropic's API, and typed while Claude is working, it raises the rest of that turn, per the changelog. Version 2.1.316 brought the samexhighbehavior to the VS Code chat box. Anthropic's Addy Osmani flagged the mid-turn trick Sunday. The docs say the word shows in rainbow colors when it can raise effort; where it can't, such as on Amazon Bedrock, set the effort level instead. (confirmed) - Anthropic says Claude wrote the Rust port now running its Messages API. On the Oct 27 Latent Space episode, Katelyn Lesse and Angela Jiang, Anthropic's heads of engineering and product, said the Messages API now runs on a Rust version that replaced a Python monolith, though the team had no Rust developers when it chose Rust. Claude wrote the code while engineers designed the system, and the team ran shadow traffic through a full Rust fork, checking that its outputs matched Python's. Asked for numbers, a guest gave a ballpark of "somewhere like 40 to 50 percent" for CPU and "somewhere between like 10 and 20 percent" faster time to first token. The transcript doesn't label speakers. Our read for teams planning a port: replay copies of real requests against both versions and diff the outputs before moving traffic. (reported)
Hark#
- Hark adds Live Activities on iPhone. Hark posted at 3:14 PM ET Saturday that "Hark has Live Activities", with a 20-second company demo video. In the demo, Hark offers "your usual everything bagel", places the order, and a Lock Screen card moves from "Your bagel is on the way" to "Your bagel has arrived". The video ends on "Stay in the loop. Without staring at your screen." Hark hasn't said which tasks start a Live Activity or whether Android gets an equivalent. David Rau wrote "Live Activities fits the phone well" (user report). Don't confuse it with hark.fyi, a separate developer app also called Hark that offers Live Activities. (company post, user report)
- Two iPhone updates in two days. Apple's App Store listing shows version 2.7.0 at 2:24 PM ET Saturday ("Improved layouts for Arabic and Hebrew. And other general improvements.") and 2.7.1 at 2:57 PM ET Sunday ("Refinements to Hark"), after 2.6.0 on Oct 28. Neither note mentions Live Activities. The listing showed 4.7 stars from 2,414 ratings at 6:18 AM ET Monday, up from 2,208 ratings Saturday. Google Play still says updated Oct 31. Hark's status page showed "All Systems Operational". (store listings, status page)
- Adcock pitches Hark to Grok Bot users over limits. Brett Adcock, Hark's founder, posted at 10:16 PM ET Sunday: "For those of you struggling with the Grok Bot usage limits, Hark’s tiers are incredibly generous. Give it a try". Frenz Adrian Sarabia wrote that with Grok Bot at 95% and a reset three days off, "Had bot give all work to hark" (user report). In Adcock's replies, a user posting as DX asked to "change the monthly quota reset to a weekly one" (user report). Hark doesn't publish plan amounts; see today's reset story. (founder post, user reports)
- Adcock says a Mac crash fix is coming this week. Amine reported at 10:03 AM ET Saturday that Hark for Mac had "crashed unexpectedly" two days in a row (user report). Adcock, Hark's founder, replied at 2:40 PM ET: "Found the bug. Will fix and be in the next update this week." At 6:19 AM ET Monday, hark.com/mac still linked an installer file dated Oct 29. Our Oct 30 explainer covers the Mac app. (user report, founder post)
- A user runs a budget through Hark Panels and YNAB. Kyle Venberg wrote that Hark "has become my new budgeting interface" while his accounts stay connected to YNAB, and that he can "build custom panels, chat with YNAB via its API, and track everything" (user report). He didn't say how he connected the two. (user report)
