Grok Bot weekly usage jumped overnight, then mostly came back

Users say their weekly meter about doubled on Nov 1, and several say it dropped back Monday. Check yours and keep your usage export.

If your Grok Bot weekly meter jumped over the weekend, open Settings, Usage & Billing now. Several users say the number dropped back Monday. If yours didn't, export your usage and send it to support.

What changed#

A Cursor forum thread opened at 12:25 AM ET on Nov 1 with a meter flipping between 77% and 100%. Later posts describe it roughly doubling. One user wrote it "jumped from ~46% to 92% with no real activity". The status page listed a "Service Degradation - Billing and Usage Dashboard" incident from 1:38 to 5:53 AM ET that day. It didn't mention the meter.

That afternoon, a user asked Elon Musk "Any chance for a Grok Bot reset". At 3:34 PM ET he replied: "The cost of serving Grok Bot was unsustainably high relative to revenue". He didn't say whether limits changed.

Around 3 AM ET Monday, several users said the meter was back. One wrote usage "has been fixed from 100% back down to what it was before this issue started." Not everyone agrees: one user says the meter reads 89% though their Bots haven't run for two days, and another says a routine that used "about 4%, now it was 8%". No staff post is visible on the thread, and no official note gives new limit numbers.

Why it matters#

A wrong reading can stop work or spill into paid usage. One user says on-demand spending "spent $11 in 2mins"; a legacy Pro+ user says they were locked out.

How to use it#

  1. Note your weekly percentage, export your usage, and compare the two for Oct 31 to Nov 2.
  2. If it still looks wrong, reply on your support ticket. Staff told one user that "replying there with your usage export will keep everything in one place."
  3. Check your additional usage or on-demand limit.

Good to know#

Usage counts the work a Bot does, "not by the number of messages," a staff member said. His short version: "start a new chat for each task, use routines less often, and hand off heavy implementation work to Cursor cloud agents." Our usage guide has the rest.

What to watch#

A staff reply on the thread, an official note on limits, and whether wrongly counted usage gets credited.

Last checked: Nov 2, 2026, 6:55 to 6:58 AM ET. What changed: first published Nov 2.

Steps

  1. Open Settings, Usage & Billing and note your weekly percentage and reset date.
  2. Export your usage, then compare the meter with what the export shows for Oct 31 to Nov 2.
  3. If the meter still looks wrong, reply on your existing support ticket at support@x.ai with the export and a screenshot.
  4. Check your monthly additional usage or on-demand limit so a wrong reading can't run up charges.

Prompt

Read my Grok Bot usage for this week and tell me, day by day, how much of my weekly allowance each Bot and routine used. Flag any jump that doesn't match work that actually ran between Oct 31 and Nov 2. Don't change any settings. (ours, untested)
