Find and edit your Bots' skills on desktop

The redesigned details pane hides skills, but Cmd+Shift+M still opens them under Private skills.

Your skills are still on the Grok Bot desktop app, even though a Bot's details pane no longer shows them. Press Cmd+Shift+M (Ctrl+Shift+M on Windows) and "look under Private skills," staff member mohitjain said on Oct 9.

Why it matters#

The desktop details pane was redesigned, and staff said that "Details now only shows Routines." One user said it took him a while to notice his imported Bots had no skills, "because the desktop app doesn't show any of those properties."

How to use it#

  1. Press Cmd+Shift+M on Mac, or Ctrl+Shift+M on Windows.
  2. Or open Connect apps at the bottom of the sidebar.
  3. Go to your installed plugins and skills.
  4. Click any skill under Private skills to "edit its name, description, and instructions," as staff member kevinn put it.

To check from the chat side, ask the Bot itself (our prompt):

List every skill you can use, with one line on what each does, and tell me which ones you haven't used in the last two weeks.

Good to know#

  • A Bot's own instructions (its description) have no desktop view right now, staff said. The phone app still shows them as Instructions, per Cursor's help center, but staff warned that editing them on the phone "may not reliably change how the Bot behaves in chat at the moment."
  • Use this view after adding a Bot from a template. Skills in a template's preview don't arrive on the imported Bot, a known issue staff are still tracking.
  • We didn't try it. The box has no desktop app, so these steps come from two staff posts.

Steps

  1. Press Cmd+Shift+M on Mac, or Ctrl+Shift+M on Windows.
  2. Or open Connect apps at the bottom of the sidebar.
  3. Go to your installed plugins and skills.
  4. Click a skill under Private skills.
  5. Edit its name, description, or instructions.
