Stale Computer update available notice in the phone app

Ignore the phone's Computer update available notice when the desktop app says your Bot's computer is up to date.

  • Status: Open. Staff said at 5:57 AM ET on Oct 8 that developers found a likely cause, and that the fix "should land in a future release of the mobile app."
  • First seen: Oct 5, when the reporter's iPhone app started showing the notice while the Mac app said the computer was up to date.
  • Symptoms: The phone keeps showing Computer update available after the computer has already updated.
  • Workaround: Trust the desktop app's status and ignore the phone's notice.

Colin, a Cursor community support engineer, explained it on Oct 7. "The Mac is reading your computer live, so when it says up to date, it is," he wrote. "The phone app can miss the 'now up to date' signal afterwards, so it keeps showing the old status."

Why it matters#

The notice can send you to press Update when there's nothing new. Staff said in the same thread that an extra Update press can rebuild the computer onto the version it already has.

How to use it#

  1. Open Grok Bot on your computer and check whether it says the Bot's computer is up to date.
  2. If it does, ignore the notice on your phone.
  3. Staff said fully closing and reopening the phone app may clear the notice.

Good to know#

  • Closing and reopening the phone app didn't clear it for the reporter.
  • A related but separate case: if Update shows up again on the desktop right after a computer update, staff said to give it 5 to 10 minutes with no Bots working. Smaller in-machine updates install on their own while your Bots are idle.
