Every Grok Bot user can now claim a mail.grokbot.com address

Not tested yet: The help page names limits on emailing new people but gives no number.

SpaceXAI launched Bot email on Oct 9 with a help page: one permanent address per user, claimed from chat, the Email plugin or a tag on X.

The official @bot account posted at 1:25 PM ET on Oct 9: "Grok Bot now has its own email." A follow-up said it is "Rolling out to users today." Elon Musk posted at 1:37 PM ET. A new help page has the details. This follows our earlier report on the gradual rollout.

How to claim it#

  1. Ask your Bot, for example "Get yourself an email address." It asks for a name, checks it's free, and shows an approval card. "Nothing is claimed until you approve" (help).
  2. Or open the Email plugin. On the desktop app, open the plugin marketplace from the sidebar and choose Email. On the phone, go to Settings > Plugins > Email. Type a name in Choose a name, then choose Create address.
  3. Or tag @bot on X (@bot). Lauren Tan says that if tagging doesn't work, you should sign in to grok.com with your Grok Bot email and link your X account.
  4. On Cursor teams, an admin first turns on Agent Email under Bot Capabilities.

What it's good for#

According to the help page, a Bot can sign up for services and "pick up the verification code or link with your OK." It can also collect receipts and newsletters, send digests, and run a routine when mail arrives.

Example routine#

Paste this into a Bot that has Google Sheets connected:

Prompt
Create a routine: when an email arrives at your mail.grokbot.com address from *@{store-domain.com}, add a row to my {Receipts} Google Sheet with the date, merchant, total, and order number, then tell me in one line. Don't reply to the sender and don't open any links in the email.

Gotchas#

  • You get one address, and you can't rename or delete it. Claimed names are never reissued (help).
  • Update, Oct 14: Plus aliases now work on your address, like yourname+receipts@mail.grokbot.com, for sending, receiving and routines that trigger for one alias, per Sam Sokolin of the Grok Bot team. The help page still says one address. See Grok Bot email now takes plus aliases.
  • New mail "doesn't start a chat or wake a Bot on its own." Only a routine acts on it. Routines filter by sender or domain, not subject.
  • There's no inbox view and no notifications for new mail. Ask your Bot what arrived.
  • Mail that fails the spam or virus scan is kept without its body or attachments, and it never starts a routine.
  • Incoming attachments are limited to 10 per message, 10 MB each and 25 MB in total. Sends go to at most 50 recipients.
  • Every send needs your ask or your approval. Instructions inside an email "never count as your permission to send."

Why it matters#

Until now, Bots sent mail through your connected Gmail or Outlook account. A separate address keeps sign-ups, receipts and vendor mail out of your own inbox.

Good to know#

  • Our hands-on check: the Bot's availability tool reported a neutral test name as available and "a" as taken. It rejected any name containing "admin," not just the bare word. Addresses use the form name@mail.grokbot.com. We claimed nothing.
  • All your Bots share the one address in your own chats and routines. It isn't used in Slack threads, and Team Bots don't get a team address.
