Cursor agents can now click and type in any app on your computer

Cursor's new Computer Use lets agents drive desktop apps like the iOS Simulator, on their own or when you @-mention it.

Cursor's agents can now click and type in any app on your computer, not just the browser, once you update Cursor. "Cursor can now control your computer," the company posted at 11:59 AM ET today. "Agents can drive desktop apps like the iOS Simulator to test the features they build."

What changed#

Before, Cursor's docs described an agent that "can control a web browser to test applications." Now, per Cursor's follow-up post, "Computer Use lets agents click and type across any app on your computer, not just the browser." It starts two ways:

  1. "Cursor uses it on its own when a task needs it."
  2. "You can also ask for it by @-mentioning Computer Use in your prompt."

Cursor says "Update Cursor to try it" and links its download page.

Why it matters#

Our read: an agent that can open a simulator, tap through a screen and look at the result can catch some of its own mistakes before you review the work.

How to try it#

After updating, ask for it by name. A prompt (ours, untested):

@Computer Use Build and run the app in the iOS Simulator, tap through the new sign-in screen, and tell me anything that looks broken.

Good to know#

  • No docs or changelog yet. As of 12:19 PM ET, cursor.com/changelog's latest entry is Oct 16 and the docs have no page for this. Cursor's posts don't name a version, supported operating systems or the permissions it needs.
  • It can start without you asking. Cursor says it "uses it on its own when a task needs it." Our read: watch it while a task runs.
  • It's your real computer. Our read: Computer Use works "across any app on your computer," so close private windows before a long task and keep your hands off the mouse while it works.
  • A different feature, don't mix them up. Cursor's docs separately cover computer use on Self-Hosted Machines workers, turned on with a CLI flag. That isn't the desktop app, so its setup and permissions don't apply here.

What to watch#

A changelog entry or docs page with the version, operating systems and permissions.
