A sales rep who stopped opening Sales Navigator to find prospects
Grafana account executive Cam Wright pulls prospects from inside Claude or ChatGPT through Clay, lets an agent pick the best dozen, then sends them to a sequence.
You can build a weekly prospect list without leaving your chat window. Cam Wright, an account executive at Grafana, says "I used to spend hours in Sales Nav every week" because it "was the only source of truth for real-time contact data." Now "that time has been effectively compressed to zero." The result is self-reported. We have not run it.
What it replaces#
Before: hours a week in LinkedIn Sales Navigator, searching and copying contacts. After: "With the @clay MCP (+ other options) you can call the 'Find People' function directly from Claude/ChatGPT." Wright calls it "one of my biggest pipe gen unlocks recently." Wright is a Grafana rep; his X profile shows no Clay affiliation, and he says other tools can do the same job.
How it works#
The run Wright describes:
- Pull wide. "Pull in 68 contacts across all of Discord's engineering team."
- Let an agent narrow. "Have an agent select the top 12 (instruction I gave)."
- Decide. Wright then decides "if I want to add more or not."
- Send. "Then push them all into a customized sequence."
Why wide first works: "finding people is completely free and it only costs tokens to enrich them." Clay's docs back the split. In ChatGPT, after the starter credits, "continue using search-only features (which remain free)," and each enriched interaction "typically costs 20-100 credits." New connections get "500 free Clay credits."
Starter prompt (ours, from Wright's description; none was published):
Use Clay to find people on the engineering team at [company].
Do not enrich anyone yet.
Pick the top 12 for a [product] pitch using these rules: [titles,
seniority, team]. For each, say in one line why they made the cut.
Wait for my OK before enriching or adding anyone to a sequence.
Good to know#
- Search is free, enrichment is not. Keep the agent from enriching all 68 before you have picked the 12.
- On paid plans, Clay admins can cap spend. Clay's docs say admins set "how many credits they can spend" per rep, and the limit resets monthly.
- The top-12 pick is only as good as your rule. Wright gave the agent the instruction, so write yours down.
- Wright did not name the sequence tool, so that last step depends on what your team uses.
Same idea in Grok Bot#
We have not verified a Clay plugin for Grok Bot. Our suggestion: put your top-prospect rule in a skill, run it for one account at a time, and keep enrichment and sequence pushes behind your approval.
