Talk to your Bot in the car over Bluetooth

The Grok app in your car shows an upgrade screen on a Cursor plan. Use voice chat in the Grok Bot phone app through the car's Bluetooth, as staff suggest.

If you pay for Grok Bot through Cursor, the Bots section in the main Grok app, including Grok in a Tesla, shows an upgrade screen. Staff member deanrie explained why at 3:47 AM ET Sunday, and gave a workaround: "In the Grok Bot mobile app, voice chat works through the car's Bluetooth."

Why it matters#

"The Bots section inside the main Grok app is currently only available with a SuperGrok subscription, so the Cursor plan does not unlock it there," deanrie said.

How to use it#

  1. Pair your phone with the car's Bluetooth.
  2. Open the Grok Bot app and the chat with your Bot.
  3. "Leave the input field empty, and press the waveform button," deanrie said.
  4. Speak your request. Keep risky actions for later. For example:
Read me today's calendar in order, then the three emails that need a reply from me, one line each. Don't send anything. Wait for me to say which ones to draft.

Good to know#

  • The waveform only shows when the message box is empty.
  • Ask the Bot to read and draft, not send, while you drive. You can't check an approval card safely at the wheel.
  • We didn't test it in a car. The steps come from staff and the voice chat help page.

Steps

  1. Connect your phone to the car's Bluetooth before you drive.
  2. Open the Grok Bot mobile app and the chat with the Bot you want.
  3. Leave the message box empty and press the waveform button.
  4. Talk. The Bot's voice plays through the car speakers.
