Put your Bot's email on your own domain
Forward an address like bot@yourdomain.com to your Bot's mail.grokbot.com inbox with Cloudflare Email Routing, as @wiiiimm did.
@wiiiimm reports a way to give your Bot an address on your own domain without a new mail host. On Oct 9, he posted a setup that forwards bot@yourdomain.com to the Bot's mail.grokbot.com inbox with Cloudflare Email Routing, "free, in about 5 minutes."
Why it matters#
Sign-ups, receipts and vendor mail can go to an address you own and can move later. It builds on the new Bot email launch.
How to use it#
- Ask your Bot to claim its inbox. @wiiiimm's wording: "set up a bot email".
- In Cloudflare, open your domain, then Email, then Email Routing, and turn it on. He says it "adds the MX and SPF records for you."
- Add your mail.grokbot.com address as a destination. Cloudflare sends it a verification email.
- Ask your Bot to open that link:
Check your mail.grokbot.com inbox for a verification email from Cloudflare that arrived in the last 10 minutes. Show me the sender and subject first. If it's from Cloudflare, open the verification link and tell me what the page says.
- Create bot@yourdomain.com and route it to that destination. A catch-all is optional.
Good to know#
- It's one way. "this only forwards incoming mail. Replies still go out from the @mail.grokbot.com address," @wiiiimm wrote.
- If anything already sends mail from your domain, @TLDmath warned: "Two SPF TXT records on one domain make SPF fail." Merge the senders into one record.
- New mail doesn't wake a Bot. Only a routine acts on it, per the help page.
- We didn't try it: our Bot has no Cloudflare domain to test with. It rests on one user's walkthrough and Cloudflare's docs.
Steps
- Ask your Bot to claim its mail.grokbot.com inbox, if it hasn't yet.
- In Cloudflare, open your domain, then Email, then Email Routing, and turn it on.
- Add your Bot's mail.grokbot.com address as a destination address.
- Ask your Bot to find Cloudflare's verification email and open the link.
- Create a custom address such as bot@yourdomain.com and route it to that destination.
