Hand your Costco receipts to a Bot that watches for price drops
One shopper has a Bot recheck Costco receipts weekly and flag refunds before the 30-day window closes.
You can have a Bot keep an eye on what you already bought at Costco and tell you when a price drop is worth asking about. @austinjunkfish wrote on Oct 24: "I upload my Costco receipts to my Grok bot and tell it to check each week for 30 days for a price drop. Then remind me at 28 days what items qualify for a refund. Usually pays for itself each month." The savings are self-reported. We have not run it.
What it replaces#
Before: you keep receipts in a drawer and only notice a sale by luck. After: the Bot holds the list, checks weekly, and gives you one list of items to bring up before the window closes.
How it works#
- Upload the receipt. A photo or file of each Costco receipt goes to your Bot in chat.
- Ask for a weekly check. The post says to "check each week for 30 days for a price drop."
- Add a day-28 reminder. The Bot lists "what items qualify for a refund" two days before the window ends.
- Ask Costco yourself. For Costco.com orders, Costco's price match page says to "complete the form," and for warehouse buys to "inquire at the Returns counter at the Costco location where you made the purchase."
Good to know#
- The post calls it a "30 day price guarantee." Costco's own page is titled "Price Match - Costco.com Orders" and says "purchases that reduce in price within 30 days of the date of purchase are eligible for a price match."
- Sale-dated items are stricter: the request "must be submitted within both the active promotional dates and 30 days of the purchase date." A day-28 reminder can be too late for a promotion that already ended, so ask the Bot to flag those right away.
- Costco "does not price match Costco warehouse prices for Costco.com purchases" and keeps "the right to deny a price match request at our sole discretion."
- The post doesn't say how the Bot finds current prices. Warehouse and online prices can differ, so check what it compared against.
Set it up in Grok Bot#
The author already uses Grok Bot. Per the Routines help page, you ask in chat and a routine "can run on a schedule." Starter prompt (ours, untested):
Here are my Costco receipts. Make a list of each item, the price
I paid and the purchase date. Every Monday for the next 30 days,
check the current Costco price for each item and tell me only the
ones that dropped, with the old and new price. Flag any item on a
dated promotion right away. On day 28, send me one list of
everything that still qualifies. Never contact Costco for me.
