A Monday 5 AM ChatGPT health report from Apple Health
Nicholas J. Nicastro has ChatGPT compare a week of Apple Watch data with past trends and his lab results every Monday at 5 AM.
If you already wear an Apple Watch, you can have ChatGPT send you one health report a week instead of checking numbers every day. Nicholas J. Nicastro, a real estate entrepreneur, says they "connected Apple Health to ChatGPT and set up an automated report every Monday at 5 AM." The result is self-reported. We have not run it.
What it replaces#
Before: years of watch data "without really doing much with it," in the author's words. After: every Monday the report "reviews my sleep, HRV, heart rate, exercise, recovery, and other health metrics, comparing them against previous weeks and long-term trends. It also incorporates my lab results and medical records."
A reader suggested one way to push it further: end each report with one bedtime change to try, and have the next Monday's report check it. The author replied: "Exactly. A report without a standing experiment is just a prettier spreadsheet. One bedtime change, next Monday grades it." He agreed with the idea; he did not say his own report already does this.
How it works#
The author posted four steps in a follow-up. We matched each one to OpenAI's help pages.
- Open Health in ChatGPT and connect Apple Health. OpenAI's Health help page says Health is for logged-in users in the U.S. aged 18 or older, and "Connecting Apple Health requires an iPhone."
- Connect medical records or a lab provider if you have one. The same page lists supported U.S. provider portals, One Medical and Function Health.
- Ask ChatGPT for a recurring weekly report that compares your latest data with your history.
- Schedule it. OpenAI's scheduled tasks page says you create tasks from the Scheduled page, and that scheduled tasks "can use information from ChatGPT Health" when it is available for your account.
Starter prompt (ours, shaped from the author's description and the reader's one-change idea; not their verbatim prompt):
Every Monday morning, use my connected Health data to write my weekly
health report. Compare last week with the week before and with my
long-term trend for sleep, HRV, resting heart rate, exercise and recovery.
If new lab results or records synced, note what changed. End with:
(1) the one change I said I would test last week and whether the numbers
moved, and (2) one small change to test this week. Do not diagnose.
Flag anything that looks like a reason to call my doctor.
What you need connected#
A U.S. ChatGPT account with Health turned on, an iPhone for the Apple Health link, and one scheduled task. If you use a WHOOP, Oura or Garmin, OpenAI's help page says those reach ChatGPT through Apple Health, and "some proprietary scores may not transfer."
Good to know#
- Exact times cost money. OpenAI says free users get flexible windows such as morning, afternoon or night, and "Hourly schedules and exact delivery times require an eligible paid plan." A sharp 5 AM report needs a paid plan.
- It is not medical advice. The author says "It's not a substitute for your doctor," and OpenAI says Health "is not intended for diagnosis or treatment."
- OpenAI says connected Apple Health data and the conversations that use it "are not used to train our foundation models or target ads." Disconnecting deletes synced data "within 30 days."
- The post calls the assistant "SI" in two places while the steps name ChatGPT. We report the tool the steps name.
- Our note: if you share the task link, OpenAI says anyone who can open it "can read the full task instructions" and asks you not to put "health information" in the task title or instructions. Keep personal details out of the prompt itself.
- No minutes-saved figure was given. Treat the result as self-reported.
Same idea in Grok Bot#
We could not find an Apple Health connection for Grok Bot, so this does not copy over cleanly. The closest version is manual: Apple's Health export exports all your health and fitness data "in XML format" ("Tap Export All Health Data, then choose a method for sharing your data"). Our suggestion: save that export where your Bot can read it, and a weekly scheduled routine can compare it with last week's notes and grade the one change you tested. You still do the export each week, so the ChatGPT version is less work if you already use ChatGPT.
