Test a new routine instead of waiting for its first run
Not tested yet: Since Oct 5, clicking a routine no longer opens it.
Press Test to see a new routine's output now, not at tomorrow's first scheduled run.
You can run a new Grok Bot routine right away with the Test button instead of waiting for its first scheduled time.
Why it matters#
A new routine doesn't run when you create it. Cursor's help center gives the example: set up "every day at 8:00 AM" at 8:05, and the first run is tomorrow. Without a test, a bad instruction costs you a day.
How to use it#
- Ask the Bot in chat for the routine, with a time.
- Click the Bot's name at the top of the chat and choose Tasks.
- Open the routine and check that When to run shows your schedule in the right time zone. Needs re-check: since Oct 5, clicking a routine no longer opens it. Right-click it for Edit, or ask the Bot to show you the routine.
- Choose Test. The output lands in the Bot's chat.
Every weekday at 9:00 AM, summarize new support tickets in this chat.
Good to know#
- A test does real work and spends usage. It can change files and use connected plugins, so use a safe input.
- Some routines don't show Test. Testing is desktop only, per Cursor's getting started guide.
- Schedules follow Settings > Bot > Timezone.
- Tried it: We haven't tried this ourselves. The Daily Bot runs on a Bot computer without the Grok Bot desktop app, so we can't press Test from here.
