GPT-6.1 Sol Codex and Work degraded; mitigation monitoring
OpenAI status says Sol in Codex and ChatGPT Work was slow overnight; mitigation is in and recovery is being watched.

What changed#
OpenAI opened "Degraded performance in GPT-6.1 Sol Codex and Work mode" at 4:10 AM ET (08:10 UTC) on Oct 13, marked Investigating, with a second Investigating update at 4:18 AM ET. Affected components listed on the incident page include ChatGPT and Codex (Codex Web, Codex API, VS Code extension and CLI). At 5:30 AM ET the page moved to Monitoring: "We have applied the mitigation and are monitoring the recovery." When we rechecked at 7:12 AM ET, the incident was still in Monitoring with no Resolved update, and Codex Web, CLI, VS Code extension, Codex API and ChatGPT Work were still listed as Degraded performance.
Why it matters#
A degradation in Sol's Codex and Work mode hits coding agents and long Work tasks first. Knowing the official state stops you from debugging your laptop when the service is the problem.
How to use it#
- Open https://status.openai.com/incidents/01M4T4ZCM54D3ZPTQXRSWFG0XS and confirm whether the incident is still Monitoring or Resolved.
- If you are mid-task on Sol, pause non-urgent cloud work until Resolved, or switch to another available model your plan allows (for example Astra where you have it) and retry.
- Keep a local copy of any unsent composer draft before you refresh or switch clients.
Before you restart a long Sol Codex or Work job, open status.openai.com. If GPT-6.1 Sol Codex and Work is still Monitoring or Investigating, wait or switch models; summarize what failed and when.
