Codex Cloud, Code Review and Security Cloud ship together

Codex tasks now run in isolated cloud workspaces that keep going while your laptop sleeps, plus PR review and repo scanning.

You can now start a Codex task from desktop, web or mobile and let it keep running in the cloud after you close your laptop. OpenAI's Oct 6 release notes also add a Code Review plugin and Codex Security Cloud.

What changed#

  • Codex Cloud: reusable environments with your repos, tools and dependencies; each task gets its own isolated workspace; tasks "can continue while your computer is asleep."
  • Code Review: read PR summaries and diffs, review findings, and ask Codex to explain a section.
  • Codex Security Cloud: scans GitHub repos on demand or on a schedule, dedupes findings and prepares proposed fixes for review.
  • Composer predictions (beta, Oct 9): Codex suggests your next message; press Tab to accept, then edit before sending.

Why it matters#

Before, long Codex work in the desktop app depended on the host machine staying awake (Codex Remote requires the host "awake, online, and running Codex"). Cloud tasks remove that dependency.

How to use it#

  1. Follow "Set up and configure Codex Cloud" to connect repositories and prepare an environment.
  2. Start a task and close the lid.
  3. For reviews, install the Code Review plugin and open a PR.
Review this pull request for behavior changes that are not covered by tests, and propose the missing tests.

Good to know#

  • Managed workspaces apply their own cloud-access settings.
  • Security Cloud needs workspace permissions, repo setup and billing; existing customers opt in before paid usage.
  • Composer predictions: personal Pro users 18+, latest desktop app, GPT-6 Astra or GPT-6.1 Sol; predictions do not count toward limits during beta.
