ChatGPT Slides: build a team deck in Space, then export it
Pro, Business and Enterprise users with Space can ask Work for a deck, edit it together, and export to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides.
If you have ChatGPT Pro, Business or Enterprise with Space, you can now ask ChatGPT in Work for a presentation and get an editable deck in Space that teammates can edit with you at the same time. When it is done, present from ChatGPT or export it to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides.
What changed#
OpenAI's ChatGPT release notes added "Create and collaborate on slides in ChatGPT," and OpenAI staffer Tibo (@thsottiaux) posted at 8:15 PM ET on Oct 16 that "we just added slides support yesterday." OpenAI's help article says the deck can start from a conversation, files, an outline or a template, and that you can edit text, images, shapes, tables and charts directly.
Before: Space held Pages and files, and OpenAI's Space help article still says "Slides and Sheets are coming soon." After: Slides is rolling out inside Space, alongside Pages.
Why it matters#
Our read: decks are where a lot of team work ends up, and this moves the whole loop (draft, teammate edits, comments, revisions) into one shared file instead of passing a .pptx around. Being able to @mention ChatGPT or your dot in a comment to make an edit is the part we would test first.
How to use it#
These steps follow OpenAI's help article and Learn guide.
- Open Work and ask for a presentation. Name the topic, audience and source material, or attach files. Or, in Space, select Create > Slide.
- To match a house style, share an example deck or template with ChatGPT.
- Open the deck in Space. Edit elements directly, or select one and choose Request edits.
- Share it with edit access. In comments, @mention a teammate, ChatGPT or your dot to request changes.
- Check facts, charts and layout, then present or export.
OpenAI's example prompt (from its Learn guide):
Create an 8-slide quarterly business review in Space using these notes and metrics. The audience is our leadership team. Cover results, risks, and decisions needed. Use the attached deck as a style reference, preserve the source numbers, and flag missing information.
Our prompt (ours, untested):
Turn this Page into a 6-slide update for the team in Space. One takeaway per slide, keep every number exactly as written, add speaker notes, and list anything you could not source on the last slide.
Good to know#
- Rolling out. OpenAI's help article says it "may not be available for your account" yet.
- Windows. Without the MXC component, local slide work in the Windows desktop app produces .pptx files instead. Windows 10 lacks it. Use cloud mode or the web.
- Comment-only sharing: OpenAI's pages differ. The help article says "Comment-only access isn't available at launch." The product page says teammates can "view, comment, or edit."
- Exports: OpenAI's pages differ. The help article and release notes list PowerPoint, PDF and Google Slides as web exports; the product page mentions only PowerPoint or Google Slides. On desktop you can open the deck in PowerPoint or Keynote if installed. OpenAI says to check the exported file's formatting.
- Mobile. You can create slides by conversation and view decks; direct editing is on web or desktop.
- Watch next: Sheets in Space, which OpenAI still lists as coming soon.
