Keep routine approvals from expiring while you're away
Not tested yet: Since Oct 5, Settings calls saved rules Custom Rules.
Turn on notifications and add narrow rules so a routine's approval doesn't lapse after 10 minutes.
You can stop routine approvals from silently expiring by turning on the Bot's notifications and adding Auto-review rules for actions you trust.
Why it matters#
An approval from work that started without you, such as a routine or another Bot's message, expires after about 10 minutes, Cursor's help center says. The card shows Expired and the action never runs. Approvals in a chat you're using wait for you.
How to use it#
- Click the Bot's name, choose Bot settings, and turn on Notifications, as the help center advises.
- On a card for an action you trust, choose Always allow.
- Under Settings > Bot > Auto-review Rules, write one short rule per action. Needs re-check: since Oct 5, Settings calls saved rules Custom Rules.
Ask first before sending any external email.
Good to know#
- Cursor's security docs suggest narrow rules like the one above, or "allow automatically when running git status in /workspace/reports", and warn against "allow everything in the browser."
- Ask first wins when rules conflict. Rules are stored per desktop install.
- Since Sep 25, an expired card may offer Always allow this in the future.
- Tried it: We haven't tried this ourselves. The Daily Bot runs on a Bot computer without the Grok Bot desktop app, so we can't open Settings or approval cards from here.
