Anthropic opens Singapore office and signs government AI MOU
Fifth APAC office is open and hiring; MOU covers model evaluation, skills for SMEs, and in-region Bedrock inference for regulated teams.
If you hire in ASEAN, sell into Singapore government or finance, or need Claude data to stay in region, today's move is concrete: Anthropic's Singapore office is open and hiring, and an MOU with Singapore's Ministry of Digital Development and Information sets joint work on AI safety testing, adoption research, and skills.
What changed#
On Oct 14, 2026 Anthropic opened its fifth Asia-Pacific office in Singapore and signed an MOU with MDDI on the sidelines of Singapore International Cyber Week. Co-founder Ben Mann and Permanent Secretary Kai Fong Chng signed; Minister Josephine Teo and Anthropic Head of APAC Policy Michael Sellitto witnessed.
The MOU covers AI safety, security, and model evaluation (including technical exchanges on testing standards and incident response); research on AI adoption and its impact (including Economic Index data); and responsible adoption (skills training, help for SMEs, AI capability for public officers). Anthropic says Singapore ranks second of 121 countries in Claude.ai usage relative to population (nearly 6x what size alone predicts), naming GovTech, Grab, DBS, GIC, Sea/Shopee, and Supabase.
Why it matters#
APAC customers get a local team (Dale Finlay is GM of ASEAN). Regulated teams get an explicit line that organizations can run Claude with in-region inference on Amazon Bedrock. Job seekers get open roles. The MOU does not ship a new API feature today; it is policy and go-to-market with hooks for hiring, regional inference, and future safety exchanges.
How to use it#
- Check Singapore roles on Anthropic careers / Greenhouse (12 Singapore-listed openings this morning across sales, customer success, recruiting, finance, marketing, and economic research).
- If you are in a regulated sector in the region, confirm in-region Claude inference on Amazon Bedrock with your cloud account team before you assume US-only processing.
- If you sell security or evaluation into Singapore government, watch for MOU technical exchanges on model evaluation and incident response (no public schedule yet).
- SME or public-sector training: Anthropic says it will look for ways to strengthen AI skills; treat that as upcoming, not a form you can fill today.
We sell Claude-powered tools in Singapore and ASEAN. Summarize what Anthropic's Oct 14 Singapore office and MDDI MOU change for (1) hiring locally, (2) data residency via Bedrock in-region inference, (3) government or cyber evaluation partnerships. List only claims backed by the official post or Straits Times, with URLs.
Good to know#
- Straits Times: Anthropic declined planned headcount; listed 12 local openings. Sellitto said Singapore does not get priority access to unreleased models; orgs can apply to the Cyber Verification Program for latest launched models for internal cybersecurity testing.
- History: IMDA / AI Verify Generative AI Evaluation Sandbox (2023), then red-teaming in English, Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil.
- Same-day Builder Summit (300+ developers); earlier community meetup (700+ builders).
- Watch next: careers job count, public MDDI evaluation schedule, Bedrock docs naming Singapore or ASEAN inference locations.
