Cloud Agents your Bot starts can inherit Grok 4.7 Fast
Cursor staff say a Cloud Agents default saved as Grok 4.7 with Fast on applies to agents Grok Bot launches. Here's how to check it and turn Fast off.
If you have Grok Bot start Cursor Cloud Agents for you, open cursor.com/dashboard and check the Cloud Agents Default Model now. This comes from one user's report and a Cursor staff reply about that account. Staff member deanrie checked it and found the default was saved as Grok 4.7 with Fast on, and "All Cloud Agents that ran today, mostly through Grok Bot, picked up that default and ran as Grok 4.7 High Fast."
- Status: staff explained the setting and gave steps. The team is "looking into this" for cases where the option won't stick.
- Could affect: Cursor users on plans that include Cloud Agents and Fast mode (Premium and up, per the docs), especially anyone who lets Grok Bot launch agents. Staff confirmed it for one account; deanrie says Grok 4.7's default variant is High Fast.
- Not affected: regular chats in the editor on that account. deanrie: "This did not affect your regular chats in the editor."
What happened#
At 1:07 AM ET, a Premium user reported that Cloud Agents seemed to default to Grok Fast and that the web page wouldn't let them switch it off.
At 3:45 AM ET, deanrie replied after checking the account: "Right now, the Default Model for Cloud Agents is saved as Grok 4.7 with Fast turned on." He explained why it is easy to miss: the model list shows each model's current variant, Grok 4.7's default variant is High Fast, and there is no separate Grok 4.7 row without Fast. "Fast is an option inside the model itself."
Why it matters#
Fast costs more. Cursor's pricing table lists Grok 4.7 at $2 input, $0.5 cache read and $6 output per million tokens, and Grok 4.7 (Fast) at $4, $1 and $12. That is double on every listed row. Those are the rates "when you buy additional usage beyond the weekly pool"; the docs say models draw from the weekly pool "at different rates" but don't list a Fast rate for the pool.
Our read: a Bot that launches agents for you can run many of them without you watching the model picker, so the saved default decides what most of them run on.
How to check and fix it#
These are the steps deanrie gave the reporter. We haven't seen the dashboard ourselves.
- Open cursor.com/dashboard and go to the Cloud Agents section.
- Click the Default Model dropdown.
- Hover over Grok 4.7 High Fast without clicking it. Its options open to the side.
- Turn off Fast and keep Effort set to High.
- Close the dropdown and reload the page. The default should now read Grok 4.7 High.
- If the options don't open, or it flips back to High Fast after a reload, deanrie asks for a screenshot of step 3 in the thread.
Until you've confirmed the default, deanrie suggests naming the model when you ask Grok Bot to launch an agent, "use Grok 4.7 High with Fast off", and then checking inside the agent "which model is actually being used."
Prompt (ours), to save as a standing instruction for the Bot that launches your agents:
Before you launch any Cloud Agent for me, tell me which model and variant it will run on. Use Grok 4.7 High with Fast off unless I say otherwise, and after launch, check inside the agent which model is actually being used.
Good to know#
- Automations had a label bug, now fixed. On Oct 12 a user reported automations showing Grok 4.7 High Fast instead of their saved variant. At 4:14 AM ET today deanrie said "The change has already been rolled out on cursor.com" and that the old label "did not mean the runs were actually using Fast mode." Refresh the automations page to see the saved variant.
- The Cloud Agents case is different: on that account the saved default itself had Fast on.
- It's the third Fast default we've covered this week. On Oct 15 deanrie said that over ACP "the requests are actually being sent to the Fast variant" of Grok 4.6, and on Oct 16 staff confirmed Bugbot review subagents bill as Composer 2.5 Fast (our story).
- Plus doesn't have this choice: the docs say Plus runs Cursor's models with "Fast is off" and doesn't include Cloud Agents.
What to watch#
Whether Cursor adds a visible non-Fast Grok 4.7 entry to the Cloud Agents picker, and whether Grok Bot starts showing the model and variant when it launches an agent. Watch the thread for deanrie's follow-up.
